MacBook Pro Superdrive Updates

Posted on June 29, 2007

Apple has released SuperDrive Firmware Update 2.1, available for download from the Apple Web site and through the Software Update system preference.

The update is aimed at specific MacBook Pro and MacBook models, including the 15-inch MacBook Pro Core Duo, 15-inch MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, MacBook Pro Core Duo and MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo models. 17-inch MacBook Pro models seem exempt from the update at this time. “SuperDrive” is Apple’s terminology for optical drives that can burn DVD’s in addition to CDs.

The update itself “improves readability of certain CD media,” according to Apple. You can download and install the update; it will run, and if your Mac does not require this update, the installer will not run.

System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4.4 or later.
